Drawing inspiration from different cultures isn’t strange for someone who lives a life in an intersection of cultures. Artist Marco Iannicelli resides in Germany near the Netherlands and was raised by conservative Italian parents so it shouldn’t be a surprise to find Iannicelli dabble in Japanese marquetry to create an elaborately crafted lamp. For the Yosegi Light, Iannicelli combines four different types of wood and adds brass details to create a functional work of art. Iannicelli has also created other lamps under his Tree Friend collection which he takes the most pride in. It’s a series of lamps made from gathered scrap wood that he has transformed to have a life of its own. “I am most proud of my Tree Friend Collection, but I love all of my children also the ugly ones.” he says humbly. Fresh from exhibiting his other works like the A-Maze, Iannicelli is taking a break for now after moving and finding a new residence but will be back to creating art soon.
