The Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% which is equipped with a carbon fiber plate in the midsole can shave 8 minutes for runners who finish a marathon in four hours. That’s according to an in-depth study by the New York Times that also found that the shoe gave runners an advantage even if they’re running their second or fifth marathon. The carbon fiber plate acts like a spring that pushes runners forward with each step and now this tech is spreading to other running shoes from Nike including the new Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit. The shoe merges some of Nike’s most popular design such as the Nike React foam and their Flyknit fabric. The Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit will be available in neon-on-black colorway on Nike.com and for customers at select retail locations in North America starting on September 13.
